Singapore Airlines had to reaffirm the importance of protecting customer data after a series of security incidents involving their technology providers. This was a clear demonstration of the importance of maintaining data security and preventing potential security incidents.
The data breach that involved around 46,000 booking records of Singapore Airlines occurred in Amadeus' risk service, which is their technology partner. The information that was accessible included names, order reference numbers, travel itineraries, and travel class details. Additionally, for around 620 orders, email addresses, phone numbers, travel documentation details, and KrisFlyer membership numbers were also accessible. However, Amadeus confirmed that the bank or payment data was not damaged, and no order was modified. SIA stated that the incident was limited to the Amadeus environment, but the global provider of travel technology that supports certain reservation and order processes had implemented containment measures and additional security measures after the incident. SIA added that the incident did not involve any intrusion into its own IT systems. As a precautionary measure, they directed affected customers to contact new order reference numbers. SIA also informed the competent authorities about this issue. 'SIA sincerely apologizes to affected customers for any inconvenience caused,' said the company's spokesperson. 'The protection of our customers from personal data is of fundamental importance to SIA.'
Furthermore, SIA noted that many other airlines had to reaffirm the importance of protecting customer data after security incidents involving technology providers. This includes Malagasy Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, and Asiana Airlines. The Amadeus data breach involved a series of security incidents involving their technology providers, showing the necessity of maintaining data security and preventing potential security incidents.
