The strategic agreement for supply security. Gas from the United States is a crucial element for the security of energy supply in Italy and Europe. Diversifying energy sources is an important goal to ensure the stability and security of energy distribution.

The technical aspect of the problem was addressed by decisions such as that of the Energy, Networks, and Environment Authority (ARRE). This resulted in the possibility of maintaining the allocation of residual gas pipeline capacities of Transmed and Greenstream for another five years. The Transmed transports Algerian gas through Tunisia and the Mediterranean to Mazara del Vallo, while the Greenstream connects Libya with Gela.

Both contribute to national energy supply and, through the integration of the Italian network with continental networks, to the security of energy supply in Europe. The decision was reached in a technical and institutional context conducted by Arera with the European Commission and Acer, the European Agency for Energy Regulators' cooperation. This agreement is considered strategic for supply security and avoids additional costs for operators and consumers.

In addition, this decision has led to a solution alternative that has favored the use of infrastructure and avoided the resort to more costly mechanisms for operators, with potential rebates on bills. This has allowed enterprises to continue using the residual capacity without having to resort to alternative procedures necessary in the absence of derogation. This provision concerns two fundamental connections for Italy's diversification: Transmed and Greenstream.

These connections are essential for Italy's energy security and, through the integration of the Italian network with continental networks, to the security of energy supply in Europe. This agreement between the European Commission and the Energy, Networks, and Environment Authority (ARRE) is an example of how African energy policies can influence industrialized economies. This agreement shows how African energy policies can be an asset for global energy security.
