A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between two major players in the technology and naval defense sector, Novamarine and Edge Europe, for the development of advanced unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). The agreement stipulates that Novamarine will produce the USVs platforms at its Olbia facility while Edge Europe will provide the systems integration.
An agreement between two leading figures in the technological and naval defense sector has been successful in quality trials. Novamarine, a Sardinian company specializing in the design and construction of high-performance vessels, presented the first two USV models at Euronaval 2026, one of the main international naval defense exhibitions, which opened yesterday in Paris. Edge Europe, a French company based in Paris, part of the global leader in advanced technology and defense, approaches by valorizing the knowledge of the teams involved in patrol and rescue activities, integrating the Novamarine platforms with the expertise of the Technology Innovation Institute in autonomous navigation and Adsb in system integration.
The MoU between Novamarine and Edge Europe represents an important step in the growth through innovation. Collaborating with the Edge Group allows us to combine our experience in the design and construction of high-performance vessels with advanced autonomous navigation technologies, creating a new generation of surface vehicles capable of responding to increasingly complex operational needs. Novamarine presented the first two USV models at Euronaval 2026, one of the main international naval defense exhibitions, which opened yesterday in Paris (and will continue until November 6th).
Entirely designed and manufactured in-house, the line of drones includes vessels ranging in length from 5 to 26 meters. Khaled Al Zaabi, president of the platforms & systems division of Edge, emphasized: 'Our approach is not to start from scratch but to value this knowledge bag. Integrating the Novamarine platforms with the expertise of the Technology Innovation Institute in autonomous navigation and those of Adsb in system integration, we will see how autonomous surface vessels can perform a wide range of missions at sea, protecting personnel as well.
This is the model based on collaboration that we are bringing to Europe: working alongside established Italian companies, growing together rather than competing.'
