Critical readWhat happened. Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir emphasized the need for a strong industrial policy to ensure the competitiveness of the European Union. This concept was discussed during the 17th Bosphorus Conference organized by the International Cooperation Platform (UIP-ICP).
The Turkish industrial policy is strengthened with its ability to produce locally. Kacir stated that Turkey is the only country that can provide 'economic dynamism and competitiveness' to the group, through its production capabilities. This statement was made during the opening ceremony of the 17th Bosphorus Conference held in Istanbul and organized by the International Cooperation Platform (UIP-ICP).
Kacir highlighted that cooperation between the two parties should be more profound and enduring, based on mutual trust and equity. He added that resolving the problems faced by the United States can be achieved through collaboration based on these principles. Kacir also emphasized that technology has become an increasingly important geopolitical factor, with competencies and capabilities developed in fields such as AI, semiconductors, biotechnology, and energy systems.
Ankara, under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has worked to transform the country into a global leader through the production of technological capabilities and knowledge, elevating Turkey to the levels of production in Europe and globally over the past 24 years. Kacir said that increasing Turkish research and development spending and the growing population in this field have contributed to Turkey's growth towards global leadership in UAVs and warships, increasing exports of protection and aerospace. Also, support for investments in bacteria, electric vehicles, solar cells, electric turbines, chips, security technologies, data centers, AI, and high-quality products has been provided by Ankara.
However, Kacir noted that the industrial policy of Turkey has initiated a significant strengthening, with its ability to produce locally, and supported investments in advanced technologies such as AI, semiconductors, biotechnology, and energy systems. These areas are considered fundamental for Turkey's economic growth and its position of leadership in the world.
