Critical readWhat happened. The future of work depends on the ability to understand and manage artificial intelligence. To prepare for this change, Palermo has initiated an agreement between two organizations: Lumsa and Polisophia. This pact aims to train professionals who will be able to choose how to use artificial intelligence in enterprises and organizations.
A collaboration between universities and communities for teaching necessary skills in technology use
The partnership between Lumsa and Polisophia is based on a three-year agreement signed by the rector of Lumsa, Francesco Bonini, and the founder and president of Polisophia, Ets Ruben Razzante. The agreement includes educational paths, masterclasses, and executive activities, alongside research projects on artificial intelligence, ethics, and governance models. There will also be joint publications, studies, reports, and participation with national and European tenders.
This agreement was presented during the conference 'Contemporary Intelligence Challenges: Humanity and Artificiality for Responsible Innovation', sponsored by the Municipality of Palermo.
A fierce confrontation between universities, enterprises, professions, and institutions on the relationship between innovation and human capital. The Licaim (Lumsa International Research Center for Artificial Intelligence Management) is an interdisciplinary center located in the Sicilian capital that studies also the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI. The agreement aims to establish a stable connection between universities, enterprises, institutions, and civil society, contributing to sustainable models of AI use capable of generating social benefits, guiding citizens and organizations in understanding ongoing transformations. Giovanni Battista Dagnino, director of the center, observes: 'For the Licaim, AI is a set of choices, strategic, and organizational decisions, and every choice calls into question who makes them and who answers.'
This concept also refers to the skills of those who lead an enterprise or organization: introducing artificial intelligence requires defining objectives, methods of use, and responsibilities. Collaboration connects scientific activity by Licaim with the experience of Polisophia, a third-sector entity engaged in interdisciplinary comparison on innovation's effects. The goal is to contribute to sustainable AI models that generate social benefits, guiding citizens and organizations through understanding ongoing transformations. The conference gathered academic experts, economists, and institutions on the relationship between innovation and human capital.
Francesco Bonini, rector of Lumsa, explains: 'With the conference organized with Polisophia, we wanted to bring the University of Palermo closer to AI innovation without losing sight of responsibility and human values.' This pact aims to train professionals capable of choosing how to use artificial intelligence in enterprises and organizations. This agreement seeks to establish a stable connection between universities, enterprises, institutions, and civil society, contributing to sustainable models of AI usage that generate social benefits, guiding citizens and organizations through the ongoing transformations.
