Critical readWhat happened. Enterprise Singapore has announced a series of projects and partnerships aimed at improving the living conditions of local startups and creating growth opportunities. One of these initiatives is a global accelerator program with Lenovo, one of the world's largest producers of computers. The program focuses on four main areas: artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced materials, and industrial technologies.
A new agreement with Lenovo will promote innovation and the development of local startups. Lenovo, which has a wide portfolio of solutions from industrial production sectors to hardware services and technical support, decided to invest in Singapore's region. This move is due to the need to stay updated on the latest ideas and technologies that can serve local customers. Vice-President and General Manager of Asia-Pacific Solutions and Services Group of Lenovo, Hui Fang, highlighted that these partners can do much better for local startups. The Startup Singapore noted that this collaboration can make a difference for local startups by allowing them to access more researchers, investors, and corporate partners to validate their systems in realistic environments and adapt them to company procedures.
Furthermore, the Ministry for Energy, Trade, and Industry (EITI) of Singapore, Tan See Leng, stated that these partnerships "make a difference" for startups because they offer access to more resources, investors, and corporate partners to test, adapt, and develop commercial solutions. Lenovo has already collaborated with the Singapore Federation of Manufacturing Industries to help local manufacturing and trade industries improve their skills and adopt AI-powered solutions. The Startup Singapore also used Lenovo's robotics technology in its recent shipments from its own company, ST Logistics, using robotics technology to enhance logistics performance. Lenovo does not produce all the solutions on its own but works with startups to learn how startups think about technical solutions.
Despite this, Ho Fan has acknowledged that 'it is impossible to always predict where a partner will be found.' However, she stated that 'there is no such thing as an impossible trade agreement.' The program of accelerator lasting 24 months with Lenovo is intended to support local startups in their development and creation of commercial solutions. This agreement between Lenovo and Enterprise Singapore promotes innovation and the growth of local startups, providing them opportunities for expansion and access to new technologies and enterprise solutions.
