Critical readWhat happened. Sigfrido Ranucci, former host of Report and RaiNews deputy director, has filed two urgent appeals at Rome's labor court. Ranucci, who was assigned to RaiNews' Deep Dive department in February 2022 as a 'personal' deputy director, has asked for his return to the show and challenged the ten-day suspension, which he considers in contrast with Rai's internal rules.
The appeal against the ten-day suspension is initiated after the investigation into internal tensions within the Rai enterprise. Ranucci was assigned to the Deep Dive department in February 2022 as a personal deputy director, and then received a proposal from Rai to work as a correspondent in Cairo but chose instead to return to the office where he had worked for over thirty-five years, from 1999 to 2006. Former journalist Ranucci stated that RaiNews was chosen due to internal tensions within the Rai enterprise that occurred during the investigation into the attack.
He also presented another appeal against the ten-day suspension, which Rai's Ethics Committee considered in contrast with the company's internal rules. This decision was communicated to Ranucci by Rai, which decided to remove Ranucci from his RaiNews director position but kept his office in Cairo. Ranucci stated that he had never been involved in the company's internal matters, but he acknowledged that the decision was due to the internal tensions within the company that occurred during the investigation into the attack.
Ranucci stated that Rai had opened the doors of RaiNews, the port from which he had set sail before arriving at Report. Ranucci stated that after being removed from Report, Rai had offered him the choice: Cairo as a correspondent, TG3 available to the director, or RaiNews24 with delegations to the deep dives. I thank Luca Terzulli, the director of TG3, and colleagues at TG3 for having opened the doors to that newspaper where I made my first steps thirty-six years ago: as an assistant to programs, then as a journalist.
After days of torment, I chose to return to RaiNews, the port from which I had set sail before arriving at Report.
The news that matters, every morning.
