Projects for mountain infrastructure in Austria are supported by European banks

Austrian province of Tyrol is celebrating a project investment of €18 million aimed at improving tourist services around the city of Ehrwald. A visit was made by Land Tirol/Fitsch EIB Vice-President Karl Nehammer who observed the progress of the project. This trip is accompanied by Governor of Tyrol Anton Mattle and representatives from the family-run Zugspitzbahn Ski Company that manages alpine ascents and the Ehrwalder Alm skiing spectacle. The project includes a financing of €3.5 million coming from the EuroInvestor Bank (EIB) through the Zugspitzbahn company, highlighting the impact of EU funding.

Nehammer has stated that Europe needs to reach areas where small and medium-sized enterprises invest. He added that these companies and large corporations need reliable financial partners for them to modernize and invest in the future. European finance should also reach the areas where small and medium-sized enterprises invest. Nehammer said this project focuses on a family-run company that manages mountain access routes and skiing shows at the Ehrwalder Alm.

Mattle, governor of Tyrol, accompanied Nehammer.

The company, known as Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, is investing €18 million to develop its infrastructure, including improvements to the carriage entry areas, construction of an underground parking lot with approximately 85 spaces, upgrades to the ice park and resources for winter activities.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large companies need reliable financial partners to modernize and invest for the future. This is demonstrated by the cooperation between the EIB and a local bank that supports concrete investments and contributes to regional development, according to Nehammer.

The financing is part of a €100 million partnership between the EIB and the Bank Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, with both parties contributing €50 million each. The project aimed to provide further funding for Austrian negotiations on growth, innovation, and sustainable development.

The intermediary loan allows the EIB to offer financing to bank partners, which then transform these funds into loans for interested parties, using their knowledge of local markets and their own corporate clients, making it possible for Europe to support investments in regional projects and diverse sectors, including tourism. The Tyrolean Zugspitze Ski Railway has highlighted how cooperation between the EIB and a local bank can support concrete investments and contribute to regional development.
